Installation Guide

NOTE:
Be sure you have the proper flashing for the roof you are working on. Example: Asphalt, tile, metal, tar & gravel, etc.

Be sure you have sufficient pipe to complete the installation; attic space plus approximately 18" for exterior protrusion.

CAUTION: Wear protective safety glasses and gloves where applicable for your protection.

Tools which may be needed: Coat hanger wire, measuring tape, plumb bob, hammer, thin nail, chalk or crayon, reciprocal saw or jig saw, nail pry bar, tin snips, drywall saw, knife, screw drivers, roofing nails, all-weather caulking.

STEP 1: Establish the approximate location for the ceiling diffuser (K). Mark the center of this location; push a stiff wire (coat hanger) up through drywall approximately 18" to 20". (Fig. 1)

STEP 2: Locate wire in attic, remove all insulation for about 2' around wire, make sure no obstacles interfere with the "All-Canadian Tubular Skylite."

WARNING: Never cut framing members in the attic! Use optional elbows, (T) if necessary, to reroute the pipe.

NOTE: Before proceeding, make sure that the space between ceiling joists in the attic is at least 13".

NOTE: Should the roof rafters and ceiling joists not line up, or that a roof ridge or roof valley is found directly over the ceiling location, All-Canadian Tubular Skylite elbows (T) should be considered and planned at this point, or move to a different location.

STEP 3: If this area is suitable, remove stiff wire and cut insulation from area. Establish the exact center of ceiling diffuser (K) by measuring 6 1/2" from edge of ceiling joist, (OR measure 6 1/2" from wire and secure block of wood to drywall). Mark the spot and tap a thin nail through the spot to ceiling below. (Fig. 1)

STEP 4: Drop a plumb bob from roof to the nail in ceiling. Mark the spot on the roof. (Fig. 1)

STEP 5: Drive a 3" nail or a 3" screw up through the spot marked on the roof. (Fig. 1)

STEP 6: Locate nail or screw on top of the roof. Center the 13" opening of the flashing (H) over the nail or screw. Use chalk or crayon to mark the outside edges of flashing (H) on the roof for future reference. Next, mark a circle on the roof along the inside of the flashing (H). (Fig. 2)

STEP 7: Remove flashing (H). Mark another circle approximately 5/8" above and to the outside of existing circle. Do this only on the top and sides so that the flashing can slide under the shingles. (Fig. 2)
